In Bauchi State, the Coalition for Democratic Right (CDR) has expressed dismay at what happened at the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal last month, raising concerns about in respect of the rights of the people during the electoral process which is well contested in accordance with the principles of democracy.
The Coalition has responded to the recent investigation by the Tribunal on the intention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) which won the election according to the INEC.
“It is important to remember that the most important things are that Kano maintains an important position in the socioeconomic situation of the North of Nigeria, the initiation of any kind of political conflict will destroy all the states”
“As a group that promotes democracy, we have decided to join our voices in the need to ensure that the mandate of the good people of Kano state is accepted by us, if not, Other results will not do to regret the failure of Kano state to each other. The northern state is dependent because of its geographical location and business environment”
“We want to make it clear that we are not members of the NNPP and we are not indigenes of Kano State, but we are taking a public responsibility to warn everyone about the attempt to establish to chaos in Kano by trying to exterminate the people. order think twice”
Reacting to the development, while carrying the media in a peaceful protest at Tafawa Balewa Tomb, Ibrahim Babayo, the Director of Strategic Communications of the Coalition, said “The democratic process is the rock corner of our nation, and every citizen deserves to be elected, treated with respect and fairness.
“Allegations of malpractice or wrongdoing during the election must be properly investigated and resolved through an open judicial system.”
Ibrahim Babayo added, “The Kano State Election Petition will provide justice and uphold, the rule of law which is very important to the continuation of our 24 year old democracy.
“We call on all stakeholders, including the judiciary, the electoral commission, political parties, and the public, to show the highest level of integrity, honesty, and care violating the rule of law in the exercise of their constitutional rights.
Continuing, he said “The credibility of our democratic institutions depends on their ability to act without prejudice.
“As all the respondents have filed the appeal and we are awaiting hearing, we urge the appellate court to conduct a thorough review of the decision of the Kano State Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal to see its validity and adherence to due process.”
He also said, “Public confidence in the electoral process is essential, and this can be achieved through transparency, accountability, and fair enforcement.
“We ask political actors and parties to respect the rule of law and refrain from actions that incite violence or undermine the peace and stability of our great nation.
“In conclusion, we emphasize the need for all stakeholders to fulfill their constitutional obligations with a deep sense of justice and fear of God.
“Our democracy thrives when it is built on the principles of fairness, responsibility, and knowledge. We are committed to upholding these principles and ensuring that they are heard.” “People’s voices are respected,” he said.
