UNICEF Condemns Kidnapped Students In Katsina, Demands Unconditional Release
The United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF has condemned the last Friday’s attack by bandits on Boarding students at the Government Science High School in Kankara, Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria.
For this reason, it asked for the immediate and unconditional release of all the kidnapped children and their return to their families.
UNICEF Regional Director for West and Central Africa Marie Pierre Poirier, who made this known in a statement, described the attack on children as a violation of their rights. Poirier said the Fund is deeply concerned about the act of violence.
“On Friday night, gunmen attacked the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina state, northwestern Nigeria.
According to unconfirmed reports, the whereabouts of hundreds of students are still unknown.
“UNICEF condemns in the strongest terms this brutal attack and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all children and their return to their families. “UNICEF is deeply concerned about these acts of violence.
“Attacks on schools are a violation of children’s rights. It is a sad reminder that kidnappings of children and gross violations of children’s rights continue to occur in northern Nigeria.
“Children should feel safe at home, in schools and on their playgrounds at all times. We support the families of the missing children and the community affected by this horrible event. “We acknowledge the efforts of the Government of Nigeria in making every effort for the safe return of missing children,” the statement said.
