Nigerian journalist, Ahmad Isah might have landed himself in
trouble after slapping a woman during an interview.
The host of the
popular Brekete Family Show, has now been summoned by the National Broadcasting
Commission (NBC).
Isah, Chief Executive
Officer of Human Rights Radio 101.1FM Abuja, was captured hitting an
interviewee in a BBC Africa Eye documentary.
The woman confessed
to pouring kerosene on her brother’s daughter accused of witchcraft and setting
the child on fire.
Ekanem Antia, Deputy
Director, Public Affairs, NBC, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the agency
is concerned over the incident.
Antia said the
invitation would help the commission to understand the circumstances that led
to the assault.
Antia urged broadcasters to recognise the power they have
and exercise such with great responsibility and sensitivity.
The spokesman
appealed to broadcasters to focus on programmes that address issues bordering
on peace and proffer solutions to Nigeria’s problems.
