Let Them Come And Arrest Me, Wabba Dares El-Rufai
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)
President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, has dared Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai
to arrest him.
Recall that Governor El-Rufai on
Tuesday declared the NLC President and others wanted for what it described as
economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure under Miscellaneous
Offences Act.
The NLC, had on Monday, begun a
five-day warning strike to “bring the state government to its knees” over its
plan to embark on a mass sacking of civil servants in the state due to
dwindling resources.
Wabba who was accosted on Tuesday
morning in front of the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna
Waff road during the continuation of the rally, when reminded that the governor
has declared him wanted, retorted that he is waiting for them to arrest him.
NLC had led members of affiliate
unions on a protest that crippled economic activities in Kaduna.Banks,
hospital, train station, airport were shut while the state is plunged into
darkness as electricity workers also joined the mass action.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the Kaduna
governor said NLC leaders had been declared wanted for economic sabotage and
attacks on public infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna state
government has condemned the unlawful actions by unionists, urges residents to
stay calm.
