Finidi George, a former winger for the Ajax, has resigned as the Super Eagles’ coach.
Toyin Ibitoye, the former communications officer for the Super Eagles, revealed this on X.com, formerly Twitter, on Saturday.

Despite his recent hiring in May, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) decided to employ a foreign coach to supervise him, which prompted his resignation.
After working as Jose Peseiro’s assistant for 20 months, George, 53, assumed leadership after his contract expired in February. But his relegation was the result of the team’s underwhelming performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
George’s reported monthly pay of N15 million will drop to N5 million as a result, and his one-year contract will be downgraded. The staff of the new foreign coach will also take the place of his personally chosen helpers.
George bemoaned the lack of assistance from the NFF and questioned the dedication of Nigeria’s best players to the vital World Cup qualifiers at a meeting with Sports Minister John Enoh.
