Federal High Court Orders CBN To Unfreeze Accounts Of EndSARS Protesters
The Abuja Federal High Court ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to unfreeze the accounts of 20 people linked to the #EndSARS protests.
The judge, Ahmed Mohammed, issued the order to unfreeze the accounts on Wednesday after CBN’s legal teams and the defendants decided to close the case.
The CBN had asked banks in October 2020 to freeze the accounts of 20 #EndSARs protesters.
Some of those affected include Bolatito Racheal Oduala, Chima David Ibebunjoh, Mary Doose Kpengwa, Gatefield Nigeria Limited, Saadat Temitope Bibi, Bassey Victor Israel, Wisdom Busaosowo Obi, Nicholas Ikhalea Osazele, Ebere Idibie, Akintomide Lanre Yusufi, Ugoisehuo Eyezenwa, and Adeisehuo Eyezenwa Pamilerin Emmanuel.
Others are Umoh Grace Ekanem, Babatunde Victor Segundo, Mulu Louis Teghenan, Mary Oshifowora, Winifred Akpevweoghene Jacob, Victor Solomon, and Idunu A. Williams.
Donations were received in various currencies, including Naira and Dollar, using Flutterwave to provide food, medical care and legal assistance to the protesters.
The donation was subsequently moved to Bitcoin after the donation link was disabled.
The #EndSARS protests, which took place over 13 days in various parts of the country, called for the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) police unit and urged the government to carry out comprehensive police reforms.
