An expert in the oil and gas industry, Dr Kailani Muhammed, has commended the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Malam Mele Kyari, for introducing the good repair to revive the company.
Muhammed, an engineer and former NNPC employee in Kaduna State, gave the commendation in a statement in Abuja on Sunday. He noted that Kyari’s hard work, positive contributions and leadership in the oil and gas industry over the past four years have been remarkable. .
“The GCEO has put positive changes in place to improve the oil and gas industry since he assumed office about four years ago.
“Despite the many challenges plaguing the sector, Kyari has increased its oil production to an excellent level of 1.7 million bpd of oil and condensate combined as of Sept. 2023 .
“According to the fourth quarter of 2022 figures released, Nigeria regained its position as the largest oil producer in Africa, ahead of Algeria 1.021 million barrels / day and Angola 1.088mb/di November 2022,” he said.
Muhammed said Kyari was able to get the job done despite the oil theft and pipeline abuses that have plagued Nigeria’s oil industry for the past week. He said the NNPCL under Kyari, adopted Saudi Aramco’s model of using video surveillance to monitor its pipelines that transport oil from wells to flow points. in the Niger Delta region.
“The NNPCL in collaboration with security agencies, has also established a Control Center, to provide monitoring of the country’s oil and gas assets in the Niger Delta,” he said.
According to him, the monitoring system, called the Central Coordination, Data Integration and Activation Control Room, according to Saudi Aramco, will use video surveillance to monitor the country’s Niger Delta pipeline networks, where more than 90 percent of the country is searched. .
“Through the Data Control Center, the NNPC, it can detect and monitor the movement of vessels along the coast of Nigerian territorial waters in real time.
“From the facility, NNPCL officers, working with Nigerian Navy personnel and other security agencies, can determine, in real time, whether a ship is operating in activities in the coastal waters of Nigeria.
“Apart from arresting oil thieves and shutting down unscrupulous refiners, the NNPCL under his leadership has increased the limits of oil production,” he said.
Muhammed listed one of the best achievements of Kyari’s tenure at NNPCL, which is the flagship of the Kolmani Integrated Development Project in Bauchi State in November 2022.
According to him, this is the first, the beginning of the attempt to use oil in the Northern part of Nigeria.
“The OPL 809 and 810, located in the Gongola Basin of the Upper Benue Trough, bordering Bauchi and Gombe States, known as one of the largest projects like the Kolmani Oil Field, have It is estimated to hold approximately one billion barrels of crude oil.
“The project will enable the country to supply two billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to power plants in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and various gas industries, thereby increasing the the growth of the nation.
“It is also known that the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, which transformed the NNPC into NNPC Limited, which is the CAMA group, has enabled the National Oil Conglomerate, to have a very strong management structure that is possible not being used.
“The NNPC Limited currently, is working hard under three principles of profitability, energy conversion, and sustainability for its survival.
“This template is firmly demonstrated and maintained by Kyari, through deep implementation of the highest standards of knowledge and international best practices in all its activities, including its contracting process.
“As of now, contracts are being awarded based on strict evaluation criteria and in line with industry standards.
“To ensure the implementation of the process, the NNPCL has put the selection process in a competitive tender guided by the standards of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, and participation of a Transaction Advisor,” he said.
Muhammed said the attack on the NNPCL and its top management by unscrupulous groups and individuals aimed at painting the National Oil Company and its top management led by Kyari in bad light.
