11 People Injured As Petrol Tanker Explodes In Lagos On Saturday



No fewer than 11 people suffered injuries of varying degrees when a tanker truck, loaded with diesel, exploded on the Otedola bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan highway on Saturday. 

Olusegun Ogungbemide, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, confirmed the incident in a statement. 

Ogungbemide said the blast occurred when the tanker backed up and collided with another articulated truck carrying goods and a saloon car. “The impact of the collision resulted in the explosion. “About 11 passengers were involved in the accident, but no deaths were recorded.

 “Rescue teams from FRSC, the Lagos Fire Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were quickly mobilized to the scene for the rescue operation.

 “The Lagos Fire Service rescue team is making a frantic effort to extinguish the fire while FRSC and the rest of the traffic, the management team is on the ground controlling the flow of traffic,” he said. 



He advised articulated vehicle drivers and owners to put their vehicles in the proper shape and maintain a minimum standard of safety. The commander also implored the public to be more vigilant in using the road, especially during this festive period.
